In addition to being nominated for the 2010 Best New Social/Online Game award at the Game Developers Choice Awards in San Francisco March 11th, Free Realms, the massively multi-player online game from Sony Online Entertainment announced that it has reached 8 million registered users. Although it is difficult to say how many of these registrations equal active or paying users on the game, it does indicate a slight decline in the monthly average, down to 500,000 per month from 900,000 after its initial launch period.
The reason we are paying close attention to Free Realms new game expansion – Speedway Thunder – is that it means that one day it might be feasible to actually enter buildings in the game, or create guild houses or even personal living quarters. Perhaps even customizable living quarters like they did in Everquest 2.
To claim you party pack, simply log in to the game, click the green arrow beside Redeem, and then select the 3M Pet Party Pack and click the Claim button. Simple as that. But make sure you get there before the cutoff date!
An examination into why Role Playing Games matter so much, why a multi-million dollar game can fail in five seconds and why Free Realms has completely missed the point.
