Free Realms Casually Breezes Past the 4M Subscriber Mark and News From Fan Faire in Vegas

A recent Tweet from Free Realms community manager “Pex,” writing from the Fan Faire in Vegas: “Just heard that next week will hit 4 million accounts.”

There is no official announcement yet, but the time between every subsequent million subscribers seems tio be getting ever shorter.  I can personally attest to the fact that logging in to the world of – (uh, what IS the name of the land of Free Realms) “Free Realms” becomes more and more like skydiving into the middle of a summer rock concert – lots of faces running around hollering about wanting people to join their guild.  Considering the young target audience, this could become very tedious.  At least in WoW, there was a kind of allegiance to one’s named server – in FR you just hop on whatever server number and deal.

Free Realms really is a fascinating experiment – so much like the world’s most popular/successful MMO – World of Warcraft, but so different in terms of its desired userbase.  It may very well be that this Fisher Price ideology becomes its undoing when an eventual sea change in its population takes place.

In the meantime – some other interesting tidbits reported from the show:

- A new Dwarven homeland was shown that will appear in a future update. Druid job will be part of the new desert land.

- Soccer is coming to Free Realms this summer! Guilds will have matching uniforms.

- Demo Derby and race driver will get 40 quests to lvl 20. Garages will become available for customizing your own car.
