Free Realms really is a fascinating experiment – so much like the world’s most popular/successful MMO – World of Warcraft, but so different in terms of its desired userbase. It may very well be that this Fisher Price ideology becomes its undoing when an eventual sea change in its population takes place. But the level of complexity this (the addition of Guilds) seemingly simple addition adds to the world of Free Realms can not be understated. It is a massively multiplayer game, after all, and learning how to manage, coordinate, complete goals and organize groups of real people is one of the truly unique features of MMO gameplay. A visual overlay of all the trainer locations in Free Realms. I’d call this a spoiler except I don’t really see what fun having to play a gigantic game of hide and seek would have to do with generating excitment in the game. We have been expressing our concern over the lack of larger storylines and mythology in the colorful world of Free Realms – the hugely successful MMORPG from Sony Online Entertainment. Well that is apparently about to change. |
